For Construction Companies

Job costing and WIP schedules that actually hold up to a banker or surety.

Construction is where generic accounting breaks. We handle what most bookkeepers can't: percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, WIP schedules, retainage, AIA/progress billing and pay-app review, change orders, and job costing — clean, banker- and surety-ready financials from someone who does construction accounting every day.

What We Handle

Finance outcomes, not just transaction coding

  • Percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition
  • WIP schedules — over- and under-billings, by job
  • Retainage tracking, separate from regular AR/AP
  • AIA/progress billing and pay-app review
  • Change orders, purchase orders, and job costing by project
  • Vendor onboarding, COI compliance, and CIP-to-fixed-asset transfers

Who This Is For

General contractors, subcontractors, and developer-builders managing active jobs who need job costing and WIP schedules that actually reconcile — and clean, banker- and surety-ready financials for bonding and lending conversations, not just categorized transactions.

See how a WIP schedule catches cash problems early in our guide to WIP overbilling, with a worked example.

Software We Work With

QuickBooks Online, and Intuit Enterprise Suite for larger multi-project contractors who've outgrown single-entity job costing. We also plug into Procore, Buildertrend, Knowify, ServiceTitan, Jobber, and Housecall Pro, plus your payroll, spend, and bill pay tools.

Common Questions

FAQ

What is percentage-of-completion accounting and why does it matter?

Percentage-of-completion (POC) recognizes revenue and costs as a project progresses, based on costs incurred relative to total estimated costs, instead of waiting until a job closes out. It's the standard method for most contractors with multi-period jobs, and it's what lenders and sureties expect to see — recognizing revenue too early or too late distorts your job profitability and your bonding capacity.

How do you handle retainage and WIP schedules?

Retainage is tracked separately as a receivable (or payable, for retainage you're holding from subs) until it's released, not left buried in AR. We build a WIP schedule every period showing costs incurred, billings to date, and earned revenue by job — so over- and under-billings are visible immediately, not discovered at year-end.

Will you work with my job management software?

Yes. We work in QuickBooks Online or Intuit Enterprise Suite and connect to the tools contractors already run on, including Procore, Buildertrend, Knowify, ServiceTitan, Jobber, and Housecall Pro.

What if my job costing is a mess right now?

We'll start with a fixed-fee catch-up cleanup that rebuilds your books and job costs, scoped in writing before work begins, then keep WIP and job reporting current every month.
